The Cascadia Center for Sustainable Design and Construction (CCSDC) will be the greenest, most energy efficient commercial building in the world. Located at the intersection of Seattleʼs Central Area and Capitol Hill neighborhoods, the six-story, 50,000 SF building will be used to promote the most innovative sustainable building technologies and practices, increase investments in locally sourced and produced building materials, and strengthen Seattleʼs leadership in the green building movement. As the first urban building of its kind, the CCSDC will become a regional headquarter for urban sustainability and energy efficiency education aimed at reducing the environmental impact of building construction and operations (that today accounts for an estimated 39% of carbon dioxide emissions, 65% of waste and 70% of electrical use in the United States). As a living laboratory for high performance architecture, the building will be continuously monitored, analyzed and made public.

CCSDC will deliver a stream of benefits based on the following community impacts:

  • Provide community and economic development in the short and long term
  • Serve as a center for learning and a model for green development
  • Lower barriers for future projects by transforming the marketplace
  • Build new hands-on partnerships to advance shared goals
