The West Coast Environmental Law Research Foundation represents organizations and individuals on environmental issues involving the law and public policy. The grant supports a project to challenge a permit request by the Canadian Forest Service to apply Monosodium methylarsonate, an arsenic-based pesticide, to control a massive outbreak of pine beetles in the Morice Forest District in northern BC. Funds also support a public outreach and media campaign to convince the provincial government to re-evaluate its policy regarding the use of this toxic pesticide that lacks scientific evidence to show its effectiveness in cases such as this.
