The Bullitt Foundation has a strong interest in helping to create a more diverse set of leaders in the environmental field. This prize is intended for exceptional individuals from under-represented communities who possess a capacity for leadership as well as scholarship. Establishment of this fellowship is based on the understanding that if America is ever again to hope for a leadership role on global and environmental issues, it must produce environmental leaders who resemble a majority of the world’s inhabitants. In establishing the Environmental Leadership Fellowship, we are providing more opportunity and support for such leadership to emerge.
